PLAYER PROFILES

SEE THE SELECTORS BOARDS FOR THE DETAILS

LEAD: Is the person who bowls the Jack, and the first two bowls. Their role is to get their bowls as close as possible to the Jack. The classic phrase for good leading is, “one on the Jack and one behind”,

SECOND: Plays also to get their bowls close to the Jack or to play the opponents bowls out of position. Often they will follow the Skippers instructions in order to “build” the head (head refers to the group of bowls near the jack)

THIRD: Often has to play shots that travel between or around opponents bowls, sometimes they attack the head. The third also controls the head once the Skipper is on the mat.

SKIPPER: Is the bowler who instructs the other team members where to bowl and what shots to play. The Skipper is the last one to bowl in the team, and has the most opposition bowls to navigate in order to score. The skipper also keeps the scorecard and scoreboard up to date.
